Folklore has many names and definitions for fantasy creatures. Most folk tales and fairy tales are about some kind of mythical creature.

Most think that these mythical creatures are a form of nature spirit, often described as metaphysical, supernatural or preternatural. These fantasy creatures are sometimes good and sometimes evil and almost all have super natural powers.

In other fantasy tales it is believed that they reside here on earth and live sometimes very close to us. In all cases they possess magical powers that are non-human depending on the type of fantasy creature.

Stencils really finish off any room in the house. When they're made of flowers they're even more attractive.

A large wide border stencil can go anywhere, up under the cornice, at Dado (chair rail) height and even just above the skirting board or surrounding a window or arch.

You can even get inventive and use the borders vertically up the wall. This can make very effective stripes. just be careful which one you choose, it won't work with the Wisteria, for example.

Feng Shui is based on the Taoist vision nature, particularly on the idea that the land is alive and filled with Chi, or energy.  The theories of yin and yang, as well as the five feng shui elements, are some of the basic aspects of a feng shui analysis that come from Taoism.

In the ancient world stencils were used in the decoration of Egyptian tombs. The artist would stencil an outline of the figure or hieroglyph onto the wall, after which a sculptor would incise the outline in low relief.

Once this was done a thin layer of stucco was added to receive the paint. The Egyptians tended to use very bright primary colors mainly red, green, blue and yellow.

Exterior and interior walls, as well as the columns and piers, were covered with hieroglyphic and pictorial frescoes and carvings painted in brilliant colors.

If you haven't got the stamina for a whole wall a single large stencil can add a bright splash of colour.

Common subjects include hunting, often depicting with great accuracy large animals which no longer inhabit the same region in the modern era, as well as: warfare among humans, dancing, domestic scenes, multiple images of various animals, including giraffes, antelope of many kinds, and snakes.

The last of these works are poignant in their representation of larger, darker people and even of white hunters on horseback, both of whom would supplant the 'Bushman' peoples.

What can I say? It doesn't matter how you spell it a fairy is a faerie is a fayry, how many do you have at the bottom of your garden. However it's spelt they are lovely to look at and little girls adore them.

Boys, on the other hand think they're for sissy's and wouldn't sleep in the same room with them. For the little lads we have instead, suns, moons and planets with lots and lots of stars, preferably on the ceiling in luminous paint.

The grown ups in this audience might prefer to have angels, cupids or cherubs in their rooms. But for those of us who never grew up, we'll always choose the most beautiful Faeries to adorn our walls.

The seashore, shells, gulls and fishes it all reminds me of the vacations I used to take with my family when I was a kid.

They were fun times playing on the beach, making sand castles, hunting for really special shells. But that was many years ago and now I'm waiting to do it again with my grandchildren.
